Update from Waltham Forest CAMHS
We know that waiting times and access to CAMHS continue to be a concern for many of our families.
Alec Stuart, Head of Service for Waltham Forest CAMHS, has shared the following update with us about the work currently taking place to address waiting times and improve families’ experiences of the service.
Update from Alec Stuart, Head of Service, Waltham Forest CAMHS
“Waltham Forest CAMHS are aware of the issues in accessing the service and are making every effort to reduce waiting times to access treatment for CYPs and enhance the patient and carer experience.
We appreciate how difficult this can be for families and their loved ones. As a result, the service is desperately trying to do something about this, and lots of work is happening to make this better for everyone.
In August, WF CAMHS offered a whole-service approach to this. For a week, all routine activity was stopped and 400+ children who had been waiting the longest for an intervention were contacted and redirected to the correct clinical pathway/offer.
We are planning to offer another week, w/c 26th October, aiming to really get on top of our waiting times, which are improving, but not as quickly as we would all like.
Evelyn Okai (Neurodevelopmental Lead, WF CAMHS) and I will be attending the Waltham Forest Parent Forum meeting on 13th October and will be able to give more of an update.
The service really wants to be open and transparent with the Parent Carer Forum, keeping you engaged and updated on our waiting times and any service improvements. We want to really work with you and make this better for everyone.
