WFPF is a friendly, VOLUNTARY group of parents and carers of disabled children and young people aged from 0 to 25 in the London Borough of Waltham Forest. Our aim is to provide feedback on the development and direction of services for disabled children and young people in the borough to key policy makers and to support families through sharing experience and building networks
It was founded in January 2008 by Vanessa Moore and Carol Prideaux with just 20 members. We now have 300 families and 250 other members made up of schools, borough officers, local authority councillors, charities, and other disability groups in our network
The forum structure has evolved each year and is currently headed by two parent participation directors reporting into a steering group made up of 13 members, with a secretary and treasurer done for
Everything we do and everything you see on this website is produced by parents for parents
We started without any funding but now have grants from the London Borough of Waltham Forest and Department of Education
We started by running the group from our homes but now have an office at 92 Leyton Green Road, E10 6DA
Forum strategy and events are planned by the parent participation directors and every quarter produce a monitoring report which is presented to the steering group. A general meeting is then held to update forum members on activities and consultations
The group is supported by formal documents such as policies and procedures, strategy, rules of membership and a constitution
We are currently a voluntary group (possibly heading towards becoming a community interest company in 2011/ 2012)
