Code of Practice / SEN Reform

 

A new SEN code of practice was intoduced on the 1st September 2014. The forum has been involved in consultations on how the reform will be implemetned in Waltham Forest and work is still ongoing to further develop parent / carer awareness of the changes.

 

The principles which underpin the code are outlined in Section 19 of the Children and Families Act 2014. The Code makes it clear that local authorities must have regard to:

  • The views, wishes and feelings of children and young people, and their parents

  • The importance of children and young people being involved in decision making, and being provided with the information and support to help them make decisions

  • The importance of supporting children and young people and parents, to help them achieve the best possible educational and other outcomes, preparing them effectively for adult life

 

WFPF is involved in consultations locally and nationaly on how the reform will be implemented over the next 3 years. In 2015 WFPF will be hosting many events where Forum members can get involved and submit their views. Details of these events can be found on our EVENTS page.

 

There will also be a SEN conference in March 2015 and training sessions for Forum members on EHC plans throughout the year.
